I hate it when companies are over-sold by a salesperson. In my experience, one of the most guaranteed ways to buy more than you need is to pay for an expensive discovery report before you buy Dynamics GP. I just met with a distribution company using Microsoft Dynamics GP. They had paid $12,000 to a large Dynamics GP partner for a “business analysis”. I saw a copy of the report. I was not impressed. Now, almost 2 years later this company is way over budget and they are still not where they should be at this point.
There are a number of great reasons to file your payroll and business taxes electronically this year. One of the best reasons is to go green. Want to save paper? Of course you do. Who doesn’t?
The software has certainly improved over the years, but the core features users loved about Great Plains software are still the same. Dynamics GP is still a stable, core financial system that just works.
The price of Microsoft Dynamics GP financial accounting software systems for distributors can vary widely. You may need simple inventory tracking all the way up to a full warehouse management system (WMS). In order to start the conversation, and make sure we are all in the same ballpark, here are some guidelines.
Many distribution companies own a Microsoft Dynamics GP solution. Perhaps you even purchased it back in the old “Great Plains” days. Your business may have started out simple, and Dynamics GP (Great Plains) was just your core financial system. Over the years maybe you added on other disparate systems for inventory management and product configuration.
Does your distribution company need better inventory management software? Here are 5 signs that you to make a change:
Our team has been placing Dynamics GP orders for decades and we have always told companies that we can only place orders for them if we are their official “Microsoft Partner of Record”. Apparently that has now changed, and orders can be placed by any partner.
The SalesPad web portal is not very widely used right now, but I think that is going to change. A great session at the SalesPad Panels event had to do with SalesPad's web portal. This tool is still pretty new, I think they started talk about it about a year ago. Although not too many clients used it now, SalesPad is working on development and I think as it becomes a more mature product, it will be more viable for additional clients.
One of my favorite sessions at the SalesPad Panels 2015 event was about scripting in SalesPad. We have talked before about SalesPad’s flexibility and what you can do with SalesPad scripts but this session was geared towards the people who are writing the scripts and helping us to write them better. And the things SalesPad is doing to make writing scripts better and easier within the software. In the latest version of SalesPad 4.4.1.0, which was just released a couple of days ago, they have cool new functionality called Security Script Manager.
Once you make an investment in a product you want to know the roadmap, the direction where it is headed. Microsoft Dynamics makes that information very clear. Check out the published “Microsoft Dynamics GP Roadmap” graphic and download the latest “Microsoft Dynamics GP Product Strategy Statement of Direction PDF”
Before 2012 Dynamics GP users had to pay a fee for these tools and they were not cheap. Then Microsoft made them all available for free. And now some of the most popular tools have been incorporated right into the main Dynamics GP system. But if you want to use the rest of the free PSTL tools they still need to be specifically installed or activated in your Dynamics GP system.
It’s not as easy as finding a price tag on the bottom of the box and software is only a fraction of the total cost. There are four main areas that you need to keep in mind. Licenses, maintenance, services and hardware. Find out more about each cost and where to get detailed information.
Dynamics GP 2015 has been out for almost 6 months now, and summer is a great time to plan your upgrade. Here are a few features that I am the most excited about in Dynamics GP 2015.
Are you thinking about Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance? If you use Dynamics GP and outsource your payroll functions, now is the time to evaluate bringing payroll in house.
