There are many new features that I like in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 and Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2. Here are a few of my favorites:

1)      Take Company Offline for Maintenance

One of the things that I really like about Dynamics GP 2013 R2 is that I can take companies offline for maintenance.  For instance, if you do a year-end close or you need to update the software you need sole access to the system. Now you can take the company offline to prevent other people from making entries.  You can easily set a custom message to users and if they do attempt to login to the company they will get a message saying that it is offline.  More info

2)      Cut and Paste Journal Entries into GL

I like the fact that we have the ability to cut and paste journal entries directly into the General Ledger transaction entry window from Excel.  Clients used to need to buy an add-on product to do that, now it is included.  When my clients who are running Dynamics GP 2013 heard that they would be able to copy and paste journal entries for themselves that was the single biggest reason that they wanted to upgrade to 2013 R2. 3)      Status Bar for Close Process

Now when you are closing the year there is a status bar to show you how far you are through the close process.  A lot of times you would lose your hourglass when you were closing the year and clients would click the close button again and they accidentally closed two years instead of one.

4)      Reopen Most Recent Closed Year

There may be times you need to reinstate your financials for some reason and you don’t want to make an adjusted journal entry back to the closed year.  You now have the ability to reopen the most recent closed year if needed. So you could actually just undo the close.

5)      Reprint Remittance Advice

You now have the ability to reprint your remittance advice from your checks.  So if a vendor calls and says they accidently threw out the remittance advice when you paid them and they don’t know how to apply the payment, all you need to do is reprint it and send it to them or email it to them.  In previous versions you would have needed to recreate that information.

6)      Combine Accounts for Vendors and Customer

You can now combine vendors. For instance, let’s say I accidentally set the same vendor up more than once. We have the ability within the application now to combine vendors and it moves all their history into one vendor.  I just love it. We have the same functionality in AR too so if we need to combine customers, because maybe one customer was acquired by another and you want to consolidate them into one customer I.D., you can do that too.

There are just a few of the new features that I have seen customers get excited about in these new versions. If you are ready to upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 R2 contact CAL Business Solutions. Sales@calszone.com or 860-485-0910×4.
