As a Dynamics GP consultant, when I see Dynamics users wasting time rekeying data from a spreadsheet, or another system, into Dynamics GP I cry a little inside.

Not only is data entry mind-numbingly boring, but it is also very prone to error. (Probably because the typist is so bored).

This interesting blog post estimates that 1 out of every 100 entries has an error. And then discusses the “$1-$10-$100 RULE – $1 to verify the accuracy of data at the point of entry, $10 to correct or clean up data in batch form, and $100 (or more) per record if nothing is done – including the costs associated with low customer retention, and inefficiencies.”

Whether you are a highly paid accounting executive or an intern, please stop doing this.

The Manual Way to Do This

Someone is tasked with typing the data from a spreadsheet or report into the appropriate screen in Dynamics GP so that all the data lives in one place.

The Smart Way to Do This in Dynamics GP

You can use Integration Manager to set up integrations between outside systems and Dynamics GP. Every Dynamics GP user owns integration manager for a period of time after their initial purchase, which is long enough to set up these connections to pull in the data.  You can pull in your vendors, inventory, customer records etc…

There are also ways to “copy and paste” data from Excel into Dynamics GP. Add on Tools like Infinia or TitaniumGP are very popular with our clients.
