If you are still using an older version of Dynamics GP you are missing out on a few things that will make your life easier. Here are seven of my favorite new features that have been released since GP 2018.

• Warning when your password is expiring

In the past, Dynamics GP didn’t tell you that your password had expired, it just gave you ambiguous SQL errors. Then if you logged out and tried to log back in you were told it had expired.  We would receive support tickets on this all the time, so this certainly saves our clients time and money.

• See which user is editing a batch.

Dynamics GP will give this message: Error:  A user is editing this batch. I would get calls from clients all the time asking, “why can’t I get into the batch, who is editing it?” Half the time the user editing the batch was the user I was talking to.  They had left the batch or trx open on another page.  Now they can see right away who the culprit is, and that saves then from calling me.

• Enter the system password once.

Now, if you have to use the system password you only have to enter it once in your session. It used to be that if you were setting up users, you had to enter it for every window in new user setup. This is more helpful for system administrators than for typical users but it really was annoying when you had to constantly re-enter the same password.

• Attach documents in bank reconciliation

As of Dynamics GP 2018 R2 you can now scan the paper bank reconciliation document and attach it in the bank rec window. This makes it easy to find if auditors ask for to see it.

• Show user who posted to GL

In the past Dynamics GP showed the user who created a transaction, but clients also wanted to see the user who posted as this is helpful for audits. Dynamics GP now shows who posted to the GL even from a subledger, as most users post from the subledgers straight thru to the GL.

• Change security to workflow for roles and tasks

This was added in Dynamics GP 2018 R2 so that you could request changes to a user, have additional roles or tasks added to a user through workflow and have a record of it.

• Add User ID to item master in inventory

Now, in Dynamics GP, you can see who created the items in inventory, which makes life easier especially if there are any issues to resolve.
