Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 is scheduled to be released in December 2014. We typically recommend that our clients wait several months to install the newest version, but you can start planning for GP 2015 System Requirements now.

The main things to note are that the following are no longer supported with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015:

  • Windows XP all editions
  • Windows Server 2003 all editions
  • Windows Vista all editions
  • Microsoft Office 2007
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 all editions
  • Office Communicator 2007

In a conversation about the new release, Charles Ray, Senior Systems Specialist at CAL Business Solutions said, “After reviewing the system specifications for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 it appears that the system specifications are relatively close to that of Dynamics GP 2013 R2 with one noticeable difference.

The difference to make note of is that SQL Server 2008, of any flavor, is no longer supported in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015.

That could be a big deal for a lot of people if they do not have the run‑time licenses and the Software Assurance plan that would give them the latest versions of Microsoft SQL. That would mean they are not going to be able to run GP 2015 without an additional investment.

With Software Assurance you would have likely already have SQL Server 2012 already and may even have SQL Server 2014 by early next year.  And you must be on one of these versions to run Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015.

Just like Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, for this new version you must be using Microsoft Office 2010 or 2013. And the operating systems are pretty much the same also, you cannot be using Windows Server 2003. Windows Vista is no longer supported, you can only use Windows 7 or Windows 8.

The big deal will be for those clients who have SQL 2008 or SQL 2008 R2 and are currently running a recent version of Dynamics GP.

And depending on how email is handled in‑house, you need to be careful of whether the clients use the 32 or 64-bit version of Office on the desktop installs.  I won’t go into too much depth with that here, but it is a concern if you’re using Exchange or if you may be using Windows Live or even Gmail.”
