Focus on ROI:
Is Your Payroll Paying Off?

Take a look at any process your business has to complete in a day, week or year. Really study it. Look at its flaws, and its positive aspects, and you'll find that there are ways to improve, replace or eliminate them so that they speed up the velocity of business, with the result is a savings of time or money. But what about solutions that save both time AND money? That's where the real payoffs are, and that's where we're headed in this first installment of Focus on ROI.

Amber's Tips & Tricks

Amber

Hello everyone! It is spring again -- time for another cleanup tip from CAL. While doing training I have found that many users are not using the navigation pane. Many users have this feature turned off or just ignore it. One of the main reasons this feature is being neglected is users get frustrated that there are buttons for items they do not use.

The tip this month will walk you through a very simple way to remove the series buttons you do not need. Once you clear the items you don't need, you'll be more inclined to try using the New and Improved Lists. If you want training in using this or any other feature of Microsoft Dynamics GP, contact me.

From the Corner Office: An Interview with George Mackiewicz

What did you learn at Convergence this year that will have a direct impact on clients?

"What I saw was the ability to take raw data and turn it into information that [business owners] can react to. This ability gives them insights into their business that makes making decisions easier and faster. Its beginning to look a lot like a true Business Intelligence solution - not right now, out of the box in Great Plains, but with the help of third-party solutions. And Microsoft seems to be moving in that direction. It was exciting, because it was a new offering - it's like skinning an onion to get to the next layer of product features.

Ignoring Blank Cells When Performing Calculations

Problem: Columns A & B contain numbers as well as empty cells. But you want to be able to multiply each number in column A with the matching number in Column B without getting false results or errors. Try this tip for getting past this common problem.

Convergence 2008 Report

Convergence 2008 - 2

Well, it was another great year of learning and meeting at the 2008 Microsoft Convergence in Orlando. Highlights included learning about the direction the Dynamics family of products, especially Dynamics GP is going to be taking in the coming years.
The most important thing we learned was that the Great Plains product will be updated over the coming decade. In fact, Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft said that updates for all Dynamics products are currently in the works - with the GP 11.0 upgrade release being the first, and scheduled for 2010.
