As the first issue of 2008, we will focus on a common headache of the new year - 1099 forms! Plus, 2008 resolutions to help improve your business. |
Amber's Tips & Tricks Many of us work with Vendors that require 1099's at the end of the year. Microsoft has (finally) added the ability to define which box the 1099 amount prints. Click here for instructions. If you would like instructions on these additional 1099 tips please contact me! 1. Filtering 1099 Vendor's w/Tax ID to only show those missing Tax ID. 2. Setting up reminder to alert you of any 1099 vendor missing Tax ID. 3. Using the Letter Writing Assistant to request W-9's from vendors. More GP Tips & Tricks... |
1099 Trouble? Try Version 10.0! We are happy to report that 1099 statements are improved in Version 10.0! A few enhancements we like: You can track information for more than one tax type for each vendor and change tax types and 1099 box numbers for the vendors you print 1099 statements for. Changes to tax types and box numbers can be made to vendor records or to transactions, including transactions that are in history as well as in process. This enhancement allows you to print separate 1099 statements for a vendor that you purchase products or services from, but that also is a shareholder that receives dividends from your company. You also can print a single 1099 for a vendor with amounts in multiple boxes. What Does It Look Like? (screen shots)... |
Alert: State of CT Changes for W2 and 1099 Recent changes by the State of Connecticut will affect many of our Microsoft Dynamics GP users - and we want to help you to be prepared! GP Payroll Users: If you have more than twenty-four (24) W2's, the State of Connecticut is now requiring you to file these electronically. We recommend that you use a tool with your Microsoft Dynamics GP system called Greenshades State Filing to enable you to do this filing quickly and easily. Read Details GP Payables 1099s: Currently, the State of CT only allows transmitted files to be in the MMREF/EFW2 format. If you have 250 or more then we recommend that you use the Greenshades Federal 1099 Filing tool, which allows you to submit your 1099s electronically to the IRS.Read Details Greenshades is offering a special pricing bundle if you purchase by Feb 28, 2008. Chuck's Tech Talk: Disaster Recovery Planning A disaster can be anything from the loss of servers through fire, theft, drive or RAID failure, to "oops, I just deleted all our customer history, inventory (use your imagination)." We all think, "It will never happen to me". But when it does, customers have a variety of excuses why their data was not backed up. (Believe me, I have heard them all!) The bottom line is your bottom line, which is getting your ERP system back on line as soon as possible, with as few steps, and as little time as possible. The New Year is a perfect time to confirm that you are properly backing up your entire Microsoft Dynamics GP system. Make it a 2008 resolution to follow my checklist to make sure you are prepared. Help Prevent Identity Theft - Mask SS # Do you print Social Security numbers (SSN) on your payroll checks, direct deposit stubs or any other document from your GP system? Many states, including Connecticut, have already passed laws to restrict the printing, mailing, display and Internet use of SSNs. This is a key to reducing identity theft. It is easy to mask the SSN on employee checks in your GP system. If you would like instructions contact the CAL support desk 860-485-0910 x4 or support@calszone.com. |
Excel Tips & Tricks Import Excel 2007 Data Into Word By Creating A Dynamic Link There are several different ways that you can copy data from Excel into Word. If you do a simple copy and paste, you can edit the imported Excel data as any other Word table. However, if you want to be able to edit that data within Excel and have those changes updated automatically in Word, you can do so by creating a dynamic link. Plus, there is another method you can use if you want to retain the use of Excel tools to edit the data that is in Word.

Enhancement Re-Enrollment Pricing - Take 2 In last month's newsletter I confused a few details about enhancement plan renewals. While the message is accurate that Microsoft will no longer waive penalty fees, the re-enrollment pricing is somewhat more complicated that I thought. For a full and accurate explanation contact our CAL expert: Carol Hannon carolh@calszone.com.
